NPP Data Access

Data Availability: Data are available online free of charge at the Oak Ridge DAAC (ORNL DAAC) NPP Database. It contains documented field measurements of NPP for global terrestrial sites compiled from published literature and other extant data sources. The NPP Database contains biomass dynamics, climate, and site-characteristics data georeferenced to each intensive site. There are over 450 site-year-treatment combinations of biomass/NPP measurements and an average of 30 years of monthly climate data for each site. The sites have been grouped in vegetation land-cover classes based upon Bailey ecoregions, and have also been mapped with respect to Holdridge Life-Zones, Matthews vegetation classes, Olson World Ecosystem Complexes, and the University of Maryland Global Land Cover map.

The Net Primary Productivity (NPP) database contains details data for study sites, documented field measurements of biomass and estimated NPP for terrestrial sites worldwide. Compilation of these data was sponsored by the Terrestrial Ecology Program of NASA's Office of Earth Science and database resides on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Distributed Active Archive Center (ORNL DAAC) site. Each data set in the list ends with the date it first became available from the ORNL DAAC. For additional information about the NPP Databases, visit the NPP Database Dictionary. All data is available free of charge but registration is required for placing an order.
