ICES Data Access
Data availability:
ICES has some of the largest databases in the world on fisheries, oceanography and the marine environment including biological and chemical contaminant data. Some of the physical oceanographic data and gridded data and other products can be ordered for download. Much ICES data has been passed to the World Data Centre, Oceanography for the global archive.
ICES attempts to have a flexible policy with regard to access to its oceanographic databank to promote good science, and the ideals of IOC's International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange Program. However access to ICES Fish Stock Assessment or Environmental databanks is generally restricted to ICES Working Groups. Users can approach ICES to discuss access to other types of data. See the ICES data policy for more detail.

Access the Databases
ICES operates the following databases:
- Oceanographic Data
- Guidelines on submitting or downloading oceanography data, data inventories (ROSCOP) and advice on good practice for sampling.
- Environmental Data
- Submitting biological community and contaminants data. Find details of reporting formats, contacts in ICES member countries and also how you can get access to these data.
- Fish Statistics
- Yearly catch records for over 200 species in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean (1973-90)

Available Data Products
Various gridded products are available for oceanography data. Visit the database and services page for details.
Most codes used by ICES are stored in one database which can be access ed through the web. The database can be found under References Codes.
ICES uses the Interagency Taxonomic Information System maintained by the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for exchange of species information. To find species codes or names either go to ITIS web page or visit ICES' own web page.
Data Inventory
A chart is of the locations of data in the North Atlantic and adjacent seas is available.
The databanks are supplemented by an inventory of Cruise Summary Reports (CSR/ROSCOP) for physical oceanographic, marine biological, pollution, fisheries, and geophysical research cruises by ICES countries.
