The GOOS Regional Alliances (GRA) promote implementation of GOOS both regionally and globally, adapt existing observing systems and integrate them into a common systems, survey the users to determine their needs, and increase awareness, build support and develop capacity.

• WAGOOS (Western Australian Regional Ocean Observing System) (IOC Perth web site) Established in 1999, WAGOOS coordinates and improves local knowledge of coastal seas in the Indian and Southern Oceans off Western Australia. WAGOOS is not formally a GOOS Regional Alliances (GRA), however performs the function of a GRA in support of GOOS. It comprises approximately 40 individuals and 26 organisations.
